Full Description

The U.S. based Sage50 accounting software actually began in the 1980’s and was originally named “Peachtree Accounting”. Its popularity rose as it was one of the first accounting programs offered to the public and accountants, to make their lives easier. It evolved and improved before being acquired by the Sage Group in 1998.

It is traditional desktop software that is installed in a main computer, usually in the office of the company accountant or small business owner. As personal computers and software for different applications became available, customers wanted more and complex features that allowed them to do all their accounting tasks on their computers.

Simple spreadsheets, accounts payables and accounts receivables were then joined by payroll functions. This gave way to tax preparation assistance so that the non-accountants could use the system to do their own taxes.

The Sage50 business accounting software enabled users to take more control of the financial avenues of their businesses. It led to a feeling of empowerment when they were able to bring up their own accounting and business reports. Business owners helped push Sage50’s updates and modifications.

The many resources for expert reviews gave Sage50 accounting software a surprising score of 4. The new cloud access capability may bring that score up, but it wasn’t out long enough for our reviewers to include it in their ratings.
Sage50 is most known for their most basic skills in built-in payments and payroll capability. It can decrease inconvenient problems in the processing of the company payroll. Sage50 focuses on the accuracy of its payroll portion and the on-time receipt of regular paychecks.

Numerous experts claim that Sage50 exhibits “best-in-class” accounting standards, that won’t leave you in the dust with problematic financial data. The strength of their traditional accounting procedures is trustworthy and uncomplicated.

The Sage50 business accounting reviews have seen great variance through the years. Experts are ready to see a steadier annual ranking by stronger performances of their lesser used options.

Sage50 accounting software is one of the longest available programs for businesses. Being that it is “desktop software” it needs to be installed on-site. This is the most traditional of business accounting software options. The upside of this customary program is that the updates are delivered automatically to consumers.

The different versions of the Sage50 vary by the number of users. They have versions for only one user, five users, or up to 40 users. All those versions are similar which expert Sage50 software reviewers found to be a good idea. That way if business suddenly grows, the update to the next step up of software, won’t be any different from the one they were currently using.

Another promising option that experts were in agreement on is the choices that are specific to manufacturers, contractors or distributors.

(9.9 of 10)

The consumer popularity score for the Sage50 tied for N1 with two other software programs. Customers love that they can see financial, sales and tax reports with just one click.
No need to follow link after link to find the report you need. Consumers are in accord that Sage50 accounting software is the most reliable desktop software available.

With the addition of cloud capability, the information on their desktop pc’s is also accessible on their mobile devices. With subscription plans that are reasonably priced, the Sage50 is very affordable.

The other feature that customersvalued was the unlimited support access. No one likes to purchase software they can’t get to work and then get frustrated further by not being able to get the assistance they need. Sage50 makes their customers happy by giving the help they need when they need it.

Consumer Ratings

Most customers who used Sage 50 accounting software were in service-based industries. Others used their program to manage inventory or individual jobs. Our resources show that consumer rating was much different than the consumer popularity rating for the Sage50.

Customers did like the access to the program’s credit and debit card processing. They felt that the system paid their bills and got their own compensation for services, but they were less enthusiastic about the consistency of these features.

The software’s “payment solution” helped to decrease the need for manual data entry. The simplified remittance acceptance could be the reason for quicker payment of invoices. Automatic reconciliation on the data report shows the swiftness that such an attractive option gives the user.

The established accounting software of the Sage50 program delivers constant updates to financial reports to make consumers feel their information is as fresh as possible.

Consumer Complaints

When reading our reviews from consumer resources, we noticed not only disappointed users, but angry users. The majority of the displeasure seems to be with their poor support system. Consumers cite pushy techs trying to get you to upgrade for extra costs instead of helping to fix problems. The much needed support leaves long-term users feeling “alienated” and “held hostage” unless they agree to costly maintenance agreements.

Sage50 accounting software users state that the program feels “old”, and windows, fonts and the user interface is inconsistent. The program can be difficult to convert, be very complicated to use and cause extreme frustration with supposedly simple functions.

One customer who had used Sage accounting software for over 20 years was told she was unable to print ten-year old financial reports for comparisons, even though she had been using the same program.

Unhappy customers also mentioned the large annual fee to use the payroll portion of Sage50’s system.

Overall (5.2/10)

Sage50 business accounting software definitely had its loyal fan base and those who were deeply disappointed. Long-time users tended to upgrade only when necessary unless business growth forced them to need updates to keep up with the financials that went along with that growth.
New users were not as happy with the software program and were ready to call it quits in frustration over their poor, but desperately needed service support.
